Explore the benefits of early developmental support by teaming up with a kid's Occupational Therapist to enhance your child's learning and development journey. At Simply Engage, our skilled Occupational Therapists conduct screening assessments within your child's kindergarten or daycare setting. These assessments are child-led and play-based, and designed by experienced professionals.

Along with observing your child in their kindergarten or daycare setting, the therapist will conduct interviews and checklists with educators and caregivers. Following the assessment, a brief report can be shared with caregivers. The report will include brief findings and, if required, recommendations for a more comprehensive assessment.

Some areas the Occupational therapist can assess include:
  • Gross motor skills: How your child uses their body to run, jump, hop, throw, catch and ride a bike.
  • Fine motor skills: How your child uses their hands to use a pencil, use cutlery, use scissors and do other learning tasks.
  • Social skills: How your child makes friends, initiates play, collaborates and shares and turn-takes with others. The Occupational therapist will also look at your child’s play skills, including how they play imaginatively.
  • Emotional skills: How your child recognises, understands and responds to their own emotions and the emotions of peers. They will also observe how your child responds to change and regulates themselves while having difficulties.
  • Cognition: How your child sustains attention to tasks, problem solve, manage impulses, remember information, plan and organise themselves.
  • Self-care: How your child toilets, dresses, feeds themselves and grooms.
