Occupational Therapy - Assistive Technology, Equipment & Aids
What is Assistive Technology?
Assistive technology can be equipment, aids or devices that can make your life easier, safer, or support you to achieve greater independence. Some equipment or items require an assessment to determine their suitability in line with your goal, needs and situation. Assistive technology can range from simple adaptations such as grip aids and magnifying glasses, to more complex software that helps with communication, mobility, and computer access. Simply Engage OT can support you to find the most suitable equipment and conduct the necessary justification to help you with accessing it.

What's the process to access assistive technology through the NDIS or DVA?
One of our Occupational Therapists will meet with you at your home to discuss your needs. They will conduct a comprehensive initial assessment taking into account your personal and environmental circumstances. They will then make recommendations on assistive technology they think will help support you to achieve your goals. Once the relevant assistive technologies have been determined a trial of this equipment may need to be conducted. This could be in your home, in the community or at a local equipment suppliers office. Following a successful trial an application will be presented to the relevant funding body (NDIS, DVA) for approval.
